I woke up really early this morning and pulled the quilt just that little higher up the bed, you know when you just want to have those last few minutes. As I did so, my hand slipped off the quilt and I punched myself in the face. Great I thought, it’s going to one of those days.
How often does that happen? Not necessarily punching yourself in the face, but things going wrong and you immediately think that you’re going to have a bad day. You even believe that these things come in threes. The sooner you can get them out of the way, the better.
Well guess what. If that’s what you tell yourself, then that’s what’s going to happen. You are perfectly aligned to the results that you will get. You actually create the bad day for yourself. There’s no such thing as a bad day or a good day. It’s whatever you want to make it. It’s whatever you call it. If you look for the bad things, you’ll see them, they’ll happen. If you’ve already told yourself it’s going to be a bad day, then you’ll find them really easily.
It’s all about choice. Your choice. When something happens that’s not useful, that doesn’t have to set the tone for the day, the week or even your life. So make the choice to look for the positives, focus on the things that are useful. Ask yourself what needs to happen, what do you want to achieve, what’s useful for you. Get into the habit of looking for the good things, expecting good things to happen.
The biggest indicator of success is optimism. It doesn’t matter if your glass is half full or half empty, there’s something in it, so focus on the fact that there’s something in it to work with.
Not sure? Well just try it for a day. Look for the positives, focus on the things that make you feel great. See how you feel at the end of the day. You never know, even punching yourself in the face won’t seem so bad, just maybe don’t do it on purpose.
